  • Federico Moreno Torroba’s decades-long career as a composer and conductor saw an enormous amount of political and cultural upheaval. Seen as “the last of the Spanish Romantics,” Moreno Torroba was a significant figure in 20th-century Spanish music.
  • As a composer, the bulk of Moreno Torroba’s compositional output comprises over 100 works for guitar (many written for Andrés Segovia) and ~ 80 zarzuelas. His music is accessible and lyrical, employing elements of folk and art music with a distinct Spanish character.
  • Moreno Torroba served as Comisario del Teatro de la Zarzuela, director of the Teatro Calderón and Compañía Lírica, and president of the Sociedad General de Autores de España (beginning in 1974).1
