- Symphony No. 2 was actually Wirén’s first published symphony (he withdrew the first symphony he wrote as a student). Written between 1839-39, this work consists of three movements.
- Wirén dedicated Symphony No. 2 to his wife, Noel.1
- Even at just 30 minutes total run time, Symphony No. 2 would end up being the longest of Wirén’s four works in the genre.
- Musically, the work is melody-driven and pastoral in character, as though telling a story, like a tone poem might.
