The Skaters (Les patineurs), Op. 183

Composer: WALDTEUFEL, Emile
  • Waldteufel composed his waltz The Skaters in 1882.
  • The success of Waldteufel’s waltz Manolo in London opened the way for a lucrative publishing contract with a London music publisher, Hopwood & Crew. He published dances with them from 1875-1888, including The Skaters.
  • Waldteufel’s success had been mostly limited to France before he met the Prince of Wales (the future Edward VII) in October of 1874. This event gave his music an entrée to London society.1
