First Movement from “On the Way of the Cross,” for String Quartet

  • Tamusuza composed his string quartet Mu KKubo Ery ‘Omusaalaba (On the Way of the Cross) in 1988.1
  • The first movement of this string quartet gained international recognition when its first movement was recorded by the Kronos Quartet on their 1992 album Pieces of Africa.2
  • This string quartet is a tribute to the Martyrs of Uganda, a group of Ugandan Christians and missionaries who executed in the late 19th century during the reign of Mwanga, king of Buganda.3
