- Written in 1979, Svoboda’s Woodwind Trio is a five-movement work commissioned by Portland flutist Dawn Weiss.
- The piece was commissioned in memory of Weiss’s grandmother soon after the death of Svoboda’s own father. This piece was therefore fueled by that subsequent navigation of grief and sorrow.1
