Champagne Polka, Op. 211

Composer: STRAUSS JR., Johann
  • Strauss wrote his Champagne Polka for a tour of Russia in 1858. Although not originally written for a New Year’s celebration, the title’s reference to the celebratory beverage makes Champagne Polka a popular choice for the holiday.
  • Leaning even more into the theme of drinking, the melody of Champagne Polka references a popular tavern song titled “What do I care.”1
  • The orchestration is crisp and effervescent, just like the sparkling wine. Listen for the sound of bottles being uncorked!
