- Josef Strauss presented the concert waltz, Perlen der Liebe (Pearls of Love), to his soon-to-be bride, Caroline Pruckmayer, on the eve of their wedding in 1857.
- With this work, Strauss wanted to expand the traditional Viennese dance style into a larger concert piece, thus creating the idea of the “concert waltz.” He was the first member of the Strauss family to take this leap.
- Perlen der Liebe was so popular since its introduction to the public that same year that it continued to be programmed on all Strauss concerts going forward.1
