STOKOWSKI, Leopold

  • Famous for: conductor of Philadelphia Orchestra (1912-36)
  • Famous for: collaborating with Disney on Fantasia (1940)1
  • Stokowski worked to make classical music popular and accessible; for this purpose, made many lush orchestral arrangements of works by Bach (especially Bach’s organ works, because Stokowski was an organist.)2
