The Stone Host Suite

  • Skoryk’s publisher dates this suite to 1979.1 The Naxos album no. 8.573333 gives the date as 1973.2
  • This suite is based on incidental music Skoryk wrote for the play Kaminnyi hospodar (The Stone Host, 1912)3 by Ukrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka. The play is a reworking of the Don Juan legend.4

  2. My best guess is that 1973 was the date of the play and original incidental music, and 1979 is when Skoryk finalized the three-movement standalone suite, but sources to confirm this are not yet available to me.
