- This is a set of liturgical works in Ukrainian, for a cappella choir.1 Silvestrov composed this work in 2005.2
- Silvestrov dedicated this set “In memoriam Andrei Volkonsky.”3
- The texts of these chants are taken from the Orthodox tradition.4
- Silvestrov’s exploration of choral music is a relatively recent phenomenon. The liner notes to Valentin Silvestrov: Sacred Works explains that Silvestrov began writing choral music in earnest partly due to encouragement from Mykola Hobdytsch, director of the Kiev Chamber Choir.5
