3 Bagatelles, Op. 1

Composer: SILVESTROV, Valentin
  • Silvestrov wrote 3 Bagatelles, Op. 1 in 2005, the first in a series of Bagatelle cycles.
  • 3 Bagatelles presents three miniatures that are meant to be performed contiguously, one after the other. Silvestrov assigned quiet dynamics to all three pieces, making the work as a whole intimate and soothing.
  • Listen for – in Bagatelle No. 2, the song-like melody is reminiscent of a Ukrainian folktune.
  • In music, a bagatelle (or “trifle”) is a short, light, and simple piece. They often come across as somewhat improvisational, as though the musician was just struck with inspiration.1
