Scenes from Childhood, Op. 15

Composer: SCHUMANN, Robert
  • Schumann composed Kinderscenen in early 1838. He composed several sets of piano miniatures in January – May 1838: he also wrote Kreisleriana, Op. 16, and Noveletten, Op. 21
  • Schumann wrote 30 piano pieces in early 1828 which he referred to as “cute little things,” from which he selected 13 to form Kinderscenen.
  • Although Kinderscenen was inspired by the world of children, Schumann did not intend the music specifically for children, either to play or listen. On October 6, 1848, he wrote to Carl Reinecke, he wrote that the Kinderscenen are “reflections of an adult for other adults.”1
