Abendlied (Evening Song) Op. 107, No. 6

Composer: SCHUMANN, Robert
  • This is an arrangement of a Lied from Schumann’s Sechs Gesänge op.107, composed 1851.
  • Schumann composed this piece the year after he began his position as municipal music director in the city of Düsseldorf. His duties included conducting the orchestra and chorus of the city’s Allegemeiner Musikverein. The first concerts of Schumann’s residency were very successful, though he eventually struggled with the position as his health declined.1
  • “Abendlied” is a setting of a poem by Gottfried Kinkel: text and translation here.
