- Clara Schumann completed this piece in the autumn of 1841.1 Breitkopf & Härtel published it in Leipzig in 1845.2
- Clara Schumann dedicated this piece to Josepha Tutein, a Danish amateur pianist. She was the daughter of Giuseppe Siboni, an opera singer who had established the first conservatory of music in Denmark. Clara Schumann met Tutein during a visit to Copenhagen in March of 1892.3
