- Written in 1816, when the composer was 19, Schubert’s Symphony No. 5 follows the standard four-movement structure (Allegro – Andante – Menuetto – Allegro vivace).
- The work sounds decidedly “Classical,” and is thought to pay homage to the music of Mozart and Haydn.1
- Fun fact: In 1816, Schubert composed about 200 works–a busy year indeed!
- Listen for: the singing style of the violins. Schubert is best remembered for his Lieder, and his songwriting abilities carried over into many of his instrumental works.2
