Zortzico: Adios Montañas Mias, Op. 37

  • Sarasate’s Zortzico called Adios Montañas Mias (“Goodbye, my mountains”) was written in 1895.1
    • A Zortzico is a traditional Basque song or dance in ⁵/₈ time and dotted rhythm.
    • Fun fact – many Spanish composers enjoyed incorporating the folk dance into classical works, including Albéniz and Turina.
  • Adios Montañas Mias is a transcription for violin and piano of a piece by Spanish composer Joaquín Larregla.2
