- In 1770, Saliero wrote his one-act opera, Don Quixote (full name: Don Quixote at Camacho’s Wedding). The opera is sung in Italian, with libretto written by Giovanni Gastone Boccherini (brother of composer Luigi Boccherini).
- Currently, no recordings of the opera have been made; however, the overture to the opera has been recorded.
- Salieri’s opera is based on the novel by Miguel de Cervantes, specifically Part II, chapters 19 and 21 (Camacho’s wedding).
- The opera was structured as an opera buffa / ballet hybrid, with plentiful dance scenes incorporated into the story’s plot.1
