- Rodrigo composed his Zarabanda lejana (Distant Sarabande), originally for guitar, in 1929. This was a couple years after he moved to Paris to study with Dukas.
- Rodrigo arranged the work for string orchestra in 1930 (and added a villancico, which is a type of Spanish folksong/poetry form. Many villancicos are Christmas carols)1
