- Respighi composed his Serenata for small orchestra, P. 54, in 1904.1
- This is Respighi’s first professional composition “for small orchestra.” Respighi designated a number of his later works “for small orchestra” (per piccolo orchestra), including The Birds (Gli uccelli) and Three Botticelli Pictures (Trittico botticelliano).2
- This early Respighi work was not published until 2012, in an edition edited by the conductor of this recording.3
