- Ariel Ramírez was a composer and pianist who wrote ~ 300 compositions over the course of his career. One of his most significant cultural contributions was his collection of over 400 folk and popular songs, and he founded the Compañía de Folklore Ariel Ramírez, which elevated native Argentine music to the international stage.
- Encouraged by his mentor, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Ramírez traveled throughout Argentina to study South America’s many traditional songs and rhythms. He furthered his compositional studies at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires.
- Fun fact: Ramírez was married to a musicologist named Norma Inés Cuello de Ramírez.1
