- Three English Dances, op. 11, was composed for small orchestra and it premiered in 1910. Quilter created piano solo and piano duet versions of the work the same year.1
- This is one of Quilter’s comparatively few instrumtental works.2
- This set is dedicated “to my friend Percy Grainger.”3
- Grainger studied with Ivan Knorr, the same Frankfurt-based composition teacher as Grainger (though not at the same time). Several of Knorr’s English students (Quilter, Grainger, Balfour Gardiner, Norman O’Neill, and Cyril Scott) are sometimes known as The Frankfurt Group.4
