Suite from “As You Like It,” Op. 21

Composer: QUILTER, Roger
  • Shakespeare was the composer’s favorite source of text for his art songs, so the opportunity to compose the incidental music for a 1921 production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It at the Old Vic must have been a welcome challenge. Quilter conducted all performances of the play.
  • This suite for small orchestra was published the same year (1921) and consists of four movements:
    1. Shepherd’s Holiday
    2. Evening in the Forest
    3. Merry Pranks
    4. Country Dance1
