- Puccini’s opera Edgar premiered at La Scala on April 21, 1889.1
- The libretto was written by Ferdinando Fontana, based on a poem by French dramatist Alfred de Musset (1810-1857).2
- The opera was not successful at its premiere, and Puccini revised it several times until it reached its definitive form with a production in Buenos Aires at the Teatro de la Opera on July 8, 1905.3
- Story: set in Flanders in 1302, the opera follows Edgar, who is torn between his feelings for the virtuous Fidelia and the amoral temptress Tigrana.4
