- Prokofiev assembled this suite of waltzes for orchestra in 1946. The waltzes are taken from his ballet Cinderella (premiered 1945), his opera War and Peace op. 91 (which he worked on from 1941-3 and 1946-52), and unpublished score for the 1941 film Lermontov.1
- The suite premiered in Moscow on March 13, 1947, conducted by Prokofiev.2
