- Prokofiev’s ballet Zolushka (Cinderella), op.87, was composed between 1940-44.1
- The Kirov Ballet commissioned Cinderella from Prokofiev in 1940, shortly after the success of his ballet Romeo and Juliet. However at the breakout of the second World War, Prokofiev redirected his attention to a more timely work, his opera War and Peace, and he did not complete Cinderella until 1944.2
- Cinderella did not premiere until the end of WWII, on Nov. 21, 1945, in Moscow.3
