- The Oak is a tone poem from 1943 often conflated with another similarly named tone poem by Price from around the same time, Songs of the Oak. Compared to the latter, The Oak uses similar sonic elements for its depiction of the majestic plant but is shorter in length, so the piece can almost be thought of as an abridged version of Songs of the Oak. The piece differs, however, in its series of anxious episodes, ultimately ending in tragedy.1
