- Written in 1943 (four years after Concert Overture No. 1), Concert Overture No. 2, like Price’s first concert overture, is based on spirituals:
- Go Down, Moses
- Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen
- Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit
- The sequence of these three spirituals takes the piece from somber and stirring to exuberant.1
