Cuatro danzas mexicanas

Composer: PONCE, Manuel
  • Cuatro danzas mexicanas is a set of four short two-part works for piano.
    • Each piece starts with a distinct, “extroverted” introduction, followed by a more lyrical and expressive second section.1
  • Ponce embraced the “cultural mosaic” of his homeland and all the surrounding influences in much of his musical works.2 Cuatro danzas mexicanas, for example, displays the influence of both Antillean music and Jazz.3
  • Written and published in 1941
  • Dedicated to Paquita Segovia (wife of guitarist Andrés Segovia)4
