- Pierné studied at the Paris Conservatoire with César Frank (organ) and Jules Massenet (composition).
- Pierné won the Prix de Rome when he was 19.
- Pierné was the conductor of the Concerts Colonne, in which capacity he directed premieres of works by Debussy and Ravel. He also directed the premiere of The Firebird for the Ballets Russes.1
