- Sons de Carrilhões (Sound of the Bells) is Pernambuco’s most famous chôro.1
- In the 1870s, the term “chôro” referred to the music of Brazilian street serenaders, or chorões. Pernambuco absorbed this style of music as a child. The term also came to encompass dance music styles from Europe and from Brazil, played in the stylistic tradition of the chorões.
