Cantabile in D Major, Op. 17

Composer: PAGANINI, Niccolò
  • Paganini’s Cantabile in D Major is the only work the virtuoso wrote for violin and piano.
    • “Cantabile” is a term often used for vocal music meaning “in a smooth singing style.”
  • Cantabile in D Major was published posthumously and differs from most of his other compositions in that it “sings” long, melodic phrases rather than displaying technical acrobatics on the violin.1
  • Cantabile in D Major is often transcribed for violin and guitar.
