- Mozart wrote his first violin concerto in 1773, when he was was 17 years old. The work consists of three movements:
- Allegro moderato
- Adagio
- Presto1
- While Mozart is remembered for his abilities on keyboard instruments, he was also an exceptional violin player (which is not surprising, given that his father was a well-respected violin teacher and performer of the day). Mozart would have performed this work himself at some point in his career, though its unclear whether he wrote Violin Concerto No. 1 for his own playing or with another musician in mind.
- Fun fact – Violin Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Major is Mozart’s first (surviving) concerto for any instrument.2
