Piano Sonata No. 8 in a minor, K. 310

Composer: MOZART, Wolfgang Amadeus
  • Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 8 in a minor is one of only two piano sonatas that he wrote in minor keys (the other is Piano Sonata No. 14 in c minor, K. 457).
  • Piano Sonata No. 8 in a minor was written in 1778 while on tour in Paris and consists of three movements:
    1. Allegro maestoso
    2. Andante cantabile con espressione
    3. Presto1
  • While we don’t know the influence or inspiration behind Mozart’s Piano Sonata in a minor for certain, or the exact date it was written, we do know that its composition occurred the same year that Mozart’s mother died while the two were staying in Paris together.2
