Overture for Wind Instruments in C Major, Op. 24

Composer: MENDELSSOHN, Felix
  • Mendelssohn composed this overture in July of 1824 (when he was 15 years old). His original title for the piece was Harmoniemusik (Harmonious Music).1
  • Mendelssohn wrote this piece for an ensemble of eleven wind instruments at the Baltic spa town Bad Doberan, where he was staying with his father.2
  • Mendelssohn revised the overture several times before publishing it with Simrock3 in 1839.4
