- Mendelssohn completed this concerto on October 17, 1823. He was 14 years old.1
- This is one of two double-piano concertos among Felix’s juvenilia. He wrote both to perform with his sister Fanny at the Mendelssohn family’s Sunday musicales or home concerts.
- This concerto’s first performance took place at the Mendelssohn home in Berlin on December 7, 1823. Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn appeared as piano soloists. Felix was 14 and Fanny was 18.2
- Mendelssohn revised this work in 1829, and its public premiere took place on July 13 of that year.3 On this occasion, the piano soloists were Felix Mendelssohn and Ignaz Moscheles.4
