- Maskats wrote his orchestral work, Tango, in 2002. The work premiered that same year in Riga with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
- Maskats won the Latvian Great Music Award for Tango in 2003.
- Fun fact: Maskats has won this award four times throughout his career (Tango was the third).
- For Tango, Maskats wanted to do for the Argentinian genre what Ravel did for the waltz in the early 20th century, as heard in La Valse, and to popularize the dance style sweeping the international stage thanks to composers such as Astor Piazzolla.
