Andante (arr. Milone)

Composer: LINDBERG, Oskar

Note: The CD seems to label this as “Andante” from Gammal fäbodpsalm från Dalarna, but I’m not sure why, because Gammal fäbodpsalm från Dalarna is a one-movement work and this track is the whole piece. I suggest introducing this as “Old Cattle Pasture Hymn from Dalarna,” (Gammal fäbodpsalm från Dalarna) not as “Andante.” [Here’s the score for reference]

  • This piece was originally written for organ.
  • The title is Gammal fäbodpsalm från Dalarna [Old Cattle Pasture Hymn from Dalarna”]. A fäbodpsalm is a folk hymn traditionally sung by women tending sheep and cows in the mountains.
  • The melody is an authentic folk tune from Dalarna, the region where Lindberg was born.1
