- Suite Navarraise was inspired by Lewis’s vacation in the Basque region of France, where the Henri de Navarre (later King Henri IV of France) was born in 1553.
- “Cradle of a prince” refers the literal cradle in which Henri slept as an infant, which consisted of an ancient tortoise shell. This object is still kept at the chateau in the ancient ducal seat of Pau where Henri was born. Photo of the shell here.1
