Overture to Brocéliande

  • Brocéliande, “Opera féerique en 4 actes et 6 tableaux” (Magical Opera in 4 acts and 6 tableaux), is one of two grand operas which Lambert Jr. composed over the course of his career. He wrote this work between 1891-1893. 
  • The Forest of Brocéliande appears in Arthurian legend, associated with Merlin and Vivien, and as the location where Merlin is imprisoned by Morgan le Fay. Its location is associated with Paimpont Forest in Brittany
  • This opera premiered in Rouen at the Theatre des Arts in Rouen in January of 1893.1
