About the Piece
- Gaetano Pugnani was an Italian violinist and composer known for playing the string instrument with unparalleled power, eloquence, and richness. His method of grand bowing (arco magno) became proverbial, and Pugnani played a significant role in developing the modern bow.2
- Fun fact – Kreisler wrote several pieces ascribed to (somewhat obscure) 18th-century composers, including Pugnani, Francoeur, and Martini.3
