Theme and Variations, Op. 42

  • Korngold composed this piece in 1953. It was intended for school orchestras to play.1
  • Korngold’s score is “dedicated to the American school orchestras.”2
  • In Korngold’s score, the introduction of the theme is marked: “Like an Irish folk tune.”3 The theme is followed by seven variations.4
