- “Ragtime” is a style of music that preceded Jazz and was popular at the turn of the 20th century until WWI. The genre is characterized by highly syncopated melodies and typically consists of three or four contrasting sections.1
- Fun fact – in 1974, The Royal Ballet premiered a one-act ballet called Elite Syncopations using ragtime music, several of which were tunes written by Joplin (including his own Elite Syncopations).2
