  • Johnson published this spiritual arrangement in Boston in 1917. It was originally scored for voice and piano.1
  • This is one of around 150 spiritual arrangements Johnson composed. He published a total of six books of spirituals, several in collaboration with his brother James Weldon Johnson.2
  • In 1921, the Oliver Ditson Company of Boston published Maud Powell’s arrangement of this work for violin and piano. Powell was a strong supporter of Black composers throughout her career.3
