Double Concerto for Clarinet, Bandoneon, and Orchestra

Composer: JOFRE, Juan Pablo (“J. P.”)
  • Jofre’s Double Concerto for Clarinet, Bandoneon, and Orchestra was commissioned by clarinetist Seunghee Lee.
    • The world premiere recording appeared on a joint album by Jofre and Lee with the London Symphony Orchestra called “Aspire.”
      • The album was nominated for the 2023 Best Classical Compendium Grammy Award.
  • The concerto draws upon both classical and popular traditions and consists of three movements:
    1. Vals Irreal (Unreal Waltz)
    2. La Noche (The Night)
    3. Aboriginal
  • The “double” in Double Concerto means that the piece features two solo instruments rather than one.
  • Fun Fact – Jofre’s double concert was the first piece ever written for this unconventional combination of instruments.1
