- Harty wrote Piano Concerto in b minor in 1922 while visiting his friend and mentor, composer, pianist, and pedagogue Michele Esposito, in Italy. Harty dedicated the work to Esposito.
- The piano concerto is written in a Romantic style, with the lingering influence of Rachmaninov.
- Listen for: the allusion to the Irish tune, “The Wearing of the Green,” in the third movement.
