- I believe this CD has mislabeled this track. This is an arrangement of “See, the Conquering Hero Comes,” no. 56 from Act 3 of from Judas Maccabeus HWV 63 (see score, p. 151). “Tochter Zion” is the German title for “Rejoice Greatly, O Daughter of Zion” from Messiah. In Naxos’s catalog this track is listed as “Rejoice Greatly, O Daughter from Judas Maccabaeus HWV 63” but there is such movement in Judas Maccabeus. I’m sure they meant “ ‘Hail the Conquering Hero’ from Judas Maccabeus HWV 36”
- Handel’s oratorio Judas Maccabeus was composed in 1746, to a libretto adapted from the Book of I Maccabees and Josephus’ Antiquities.1
