- Graupner’s Symphony for 2 Horns, Timpani, 2 Violins, Viola, and basso continuo was likely written in 1746 or 1747.
- Fun fact – Graupner wrote 113 symphonies during his lifetime, 40 of which feature the timpani.
- This early version of a symphony is more closely related to what we consider to be a suite with six movements, each based on a dance form. Graupner wrote each movement in the same key, F Major, to unify the piece.1
