Jocelyn: “Berceuse” (Lullaby)

  • Godard’s 4-act opera Jocelyn Op. 100 premiered in Brussels in 1888.1
  • Despite a successful premiere, the only excerpt from Jocelyn to attain popularity was this Berceuse.2
  • The Berceuse is an arrangement of a tenor aria from Jocelyn. Godard created the original arrangement, for cello and piano, in 1896.3
