- Completed in 1951, Glière’s Horn Concerto in B-flat Major is a three-movement work for horn and orchestra:
- Allegro
- Andante
- Moderato – Allegro vivace
- The work is dedicated to (and was premiered by) Russian horn player Valery Polekh.1 The two met in 1950 at a rehearsal for Glière’s ballet, The Bronze Horseman. Glière was impressed by Polekh’s playing in the orchestra and vowed to write a concerto for him.
- Stylistically, Glière’s Horn Concerto seems to incorporate both neoclassical and romantic elements, embodying a bright and cheerful character.2
