- Fučik composed this march in 1907. In his diary, he dates the work to December 3, 1907, and also records his original title for the work: “La rosa di Toscana.” By January 6, 1908, he renamed the work “Florentiner Marsch: Grande marcia italiana.”1
- Fučik spent much of his career as a bandmaster, writing works like this march for his bands to play. His positions included Bandmaster of the town of Sisak in Croatia; bandmaster of the 86th Austro-Hungarian Regiment, stationed in Sarajevo and Budapest; bandmaster of the 92nd Regiment at Theresienstadt and Prague.2
